Der BinaxNow Streptococcus pneumoniae Antigen Schnelltest von Abbott ist ein immunologischer POCT-Test, der Pneumokokken Antigene in Urin oder Liquor zuverlässig erkennt. Das Kassettensystem liefert ein visuell ablesbares Ergebnis nach kurzer Wartezeit und unterstützt die schnelle Abklärung von Pneumonie oder Meningitis direkt am Point of Care. Der Test eignet sich für klinische Einrichtungen, die ohne Laborinfrastruktur rasch entscheiden müssen, ob eine bakterielle Infektion durch Streptococcus pneumoniae vorliegt.
Der Test arbeitet als immunochromatografischer Kassettentest, bei dem Antigen Antikörper Komplexe auf einer Membran sichtbar werden. Nach Probenauftrag und Zugabe des Reagenzes entwickelt sich eine Kontrolllinie sowie bei positivem Nachweis eine zweite Linie im Ergebnisfenster. Der Ablauf erfordert keine Geräte, keine Probenvorbereitung und nur wenige einfache Schritte, wodurch eine sichere Anwendung im Alltag möglich ist.
